EXCAVATION PROTECTION – SOIL NAILING, SHOTCRETING AND ROCK ANCHORING
Natural slopes and excavation slopes are subject to erosion. By providing slope protection, soil erosion is minimized and soil failure is prevented. 703 Miles Corporation provides design and build excavation or slope protection works which includes soil nailing, rock anchoring and shotcreting.
If technically feasible, soil nailing is usually the most cost-effective soil protection scheme. It provides resisting forces by inserting reinforcement bars into predrilled holes and grouting it.
Rock anchoring is used in cases where higher load resistance is needed, especially if the existence of an adjacent building necessitates minimizing ground movements in the course of the excavation. In these cases, high strength 7-wire strands instead of reinforcement bars are selected and post-tensioned according to a certain specification after the grout is cured.
Shotcreting is the final stage in both soil protection schemes. It is applied by spraying concrete to the whole area that needs protection.
